Why should the children have all the fun?
There’s no denying it, Swiss winter camps are an amazing experience. A week in the Swiss Alps, fresh snow, fun apres-ski activities, and a level of sleep only achieved after a day on the mountains (you can read more about them here). We’re a little jealous that the children get to have all the fun! And we thought as their parents you might be too… so why not join them in Switzerland? We’ve compiled a list of our favourite ways to spend a week in the ultimate winter destination:
The Ultimate Skiing Destination
We have to start with the obvious: winter sports. If you love skiing, you can buy a week’s ski pass and spend the time exploring kilometres of pistes, with nearly every resort offering pistes of all levels (from blue to black). There are plenty of ski rental shops at the bottom of the slopes where you can pick up your equipment in the morning and return it at the end of each day. Because if you’re going to ski child-free, parents should be able to ski in style.

Sheer Indulgence for Parents
If you prefer more leisurely snowy pursuits, a spot of langlaufen (cross-country skiing) is just the ticket. It’s a great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery and explore the area. It’s also a great social outing and easy to do as a group. And there’s always our favourite option, an alpine spa. Stunning vistas, infinity pools, thermal baths and hot stone massages are definitely a winter indulgence not to be missed.
Of course, then there’s the food. Where would a Swiss winter be without fondue? Cheese, bread and wine are the staples of winter hibernation, and wherever you choose to spend your time in Switzerland, it will be easy to sniff one out! If you choose a winter camp over December, then you’ll also have access to the Christmas markets. They’re magically places, full of mulled wine, food stands, heaters and cheer. Once you’ve discovered them, you’ll want to keep going back!

During the rest of the winter months, there are plenty of other festivals and activities, from torchlight walks to alpine horns! And if you’re missing city life, most major Swiss cities are within an hour or so of the best mountain resorts. There’s plenty of culture to soak up: famous memory lanes such as Audrey Hepburn’s home or the Charlie Chaplin museum, art shows, interactive theatre and Michelin-starred restaurants.
Of course if these all sounds amazing but rather a lot of planning there is a solution. If you would rather have a week organised for you, that can be arranged. Some holiday camps, such as Swiss Education Academy, have created family holiday packages for the family to enjoy together and apart. If you’re interested in treating the whole family this winter, why not drop us a note and we’ll see just how magical your winter break can be!
